Ottawa Renovators’ Council

Message from the Chair

In a nutshell, if you’re planning a renovation, there’s really only one thing to do.

Take charge.

That’s it. Don’t let anyone push you around. Don’t let anyone mess with your home, your dreams, your money.

As the customer, you must be in the driver’s seat.

The first way to steer your renovation is to use nothing but a RenoMark™-registered renovator or contractor. After that, everything else falls into place.

I’ve been in this business a long time, and I can’t stress strongly enough the importance of being safe, secure and completely satisfied with your renovation.

I have seen the bad ones. I’ve heard the stories. There are nightmare jobs no one should ever have to live with. They’re the jobs that started out as something that seemed like a good idea at the time. But they were done by poorly-skilled or disreputable companies or individuals who managed to put one over on their unsuspecting customers.

Don’t be one of those customers. Don’t take the chance.

A good renovation impacts you long after the thrill of seeing your new space come to life. It goes on for years, because a good renovation is one that lasts. Even if, in time, a renovation becomes outdated, the quality will always be there. RenoMark™ is a legal contract that backs that up.

So don’t waste your time on the guys who say they’ll do it cheaper, faster, slicker. They’re all over the place. They might operate out of the back of a truck or they might look superb in advertising or on the Internet. But unless they’re registered with RenoMark™, how can you be sure?

It’s simple.

You can’t be sure at all.

When you hire a RenoMark™-registered renovator, you can be certain of excellence from start to finish. Renovators who sign up for the RenoMark™ program put their money and their reputations on the line. If they don’t live up to the program’s high standards, they’re out of the program. Period.

Fall and winter are the best time to plan an addition for the Spring, because it takes months for design considerations and permits. It’s also a great time for indoor projects: new bathrooms, basements, kitchens and so on.

So dream on, plan on… but remember: You’re the customer. Take charge. Hire the right people.

If they’re RenoMark™ people, you don’t need to worry about it. You know they’re right.
