The Ontario government has provided some guidelines and checking tools to help avoid renovation scams.

You can visit for general advice, and if you want to check on whether the business you are think ing of using has been convicted of consumer violations (or hasn’t responded to complains to the ministry of consumer services) you can see if their name appears in the “Consumer Beware List.”

Of course, you can avoid risk by using qualified RenoMark contractors — including members of the Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association renovators’ council.  Of course, feel free to check the RenoMark contractor name against the Consumer Beware list. In this situation, the answer you will want to see — and will discover — is a “no match.”
