Outstanding work recognized by GOHBA
RND Construction Ltd., with Hobin Architecture, won the GOHBA Innovation Award for Green Production Home of the Year. This home, called “The Walnut”, is part of Farmside Green, a nine-home development on a remarkable urban property that backs onto an NCC recreational trail and the Central Experimental Farm on the south edge of Ottawa’s Carlington neighbourhood.
The design features a simple façade composition with a prominent gable finished in board-and-batten siding above the front porch and den, creating a focal point for the elevation. The flanking garage is diminished in scale by strategically lowering the roof above it.
Inside, windows on three sides capture expansive views of the agricultural lands and surrounding mature trees
It has increased insulation values and energy-efficient HVAC systems. It has been certified in the R2000 and Net Zero ready. Finishes were selected with low or no VOCs. Materials were source locally and with high recycle content where possible.
